How it all started

After 20 years of working with post-secondaries, Donald saw too many post-secondary sustainability and facilities leaders working in silos. Stretched thin, under-resourced, and expected to drive meaningful sustainability outcomes without the time, support, or expertise to get there.

It is a frustrating reality across campuses nationwide, and it is slowing progress on the goals that matter most. Donald Jantz, CPA, MEB, saw this pattern firsthand.

With a career spanning sustainability strategy, energy consulting, and work with organizations like Mount Royal University, Green Economy Canada, and the Energy Futures Lab, Donald kept encountering talented, committed leaders who had the will to make change but lacked the capacity, the network, and the expert support to make it happen.

So he built two organizations to fix that.

Through Strategic Sustainability Consulting, Donald works with institutions one on one, building strategies, completing reporting requirements, writing grants, and staying involved as a fractional sustainability director for the institutions that need ongoing support.

The Sustainable Campus Collaborative, the national nonprofit Donald founded alongside Strategic Sustainability Consulting, works at sector scale by connecting sustainability leaders across Canada and the US, sharing benchmarking data, and creating collective funding opportunities that no single institution could access alone.

Meet Donald Jantz

After 20 years working with post-secondary institutions across Canada and the United States, I've seen what happens when institutions have the right support and what happens when they don't.

I've led sustainability reporting at Mount Royal University, worked with clean tech startups, served as a Fellow with the Energy Futures Lab, and worked with Green Economy Canada.

I understand the political complexity, the resource constraints, and the gap between what gets committed to in a strategic plan and what actually happens on campus.

With my CPA designation, I can help you build the financial business case in the language of a CFO or VP Finance, not just the language of a sustainability report.

Combined with my Master of Environmental Business, I bring technical credibility, financial fluency, and institutional change expertise to every project.

I am motivated by complex challenges that require teams to unite in shared purpose. Every institution I work with gets a partner who shows up and stays involved until the work is done.
